NORWAY TRAVEL DOCUMENTARY | The Grand Norwegian Roadtrip

Our road trip through southern Norway involved several loops to see as much of the country as possible. We drove several hundred kilometers a day, but with views like these, we couldn't resist frequent stops. The eastern flank of Yotunheiman National Park was particularly mesmerizing, with clear streams and blue lakes. The road leading through this area is designated a national tourist road and is one of Norway's most beautiful routes.

Before exploring the highest mountains of Norway, we decided to hike in Doraville National Park to see the last healthy population of musk oxen in Europe. These creatures thrive in arctic climates and have a unique adaptation - their wool is highly prized for being incredibly soft and warm. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we decided to stay overnight in the park.

After hiking, we headed towards Norway's highest peak, Galloping. The climb was challenging, with rocky passages and snow-covered trails, but the views were worth it. The weather was cloudy at the summit, but we found a hut to warm up and enjoy hot beverages. We had the entire meeting to ourselves, which made the experience even more special.

Heading to another valley, we drove along a blue glacial stream into the awe-inspiring Layer Darling. This hidden gem offered stunning views, especially from its summit. We didn't need to climb mountains for spectacular views in this part of Norway - simply taking the road across Sonjifila was enough to appreciate the magnificence of the landscape.

We explored other attractions like an old sanitarium and a turquoise glacier lake. We encountered a juvenile moose on the road and spotted numerous waterfalls and charming little hamlets. The landscape reminded us of a slower-paced life in Norway.

After a scenic cruise and another ferry ride, we returned to experience the mountain plateau and sunshine. The difference between our visits was remarkable, with the lakes unfrozen and summer in full swing. We marveled at the beauty of Urlansfield and continued our journey to explore more of Norway's stunning landscapes.
