Welcome to a New Travel Series: Maldives
Today is February 6, 2022, and I am at Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, ready to embark on a new trip. This travel series is unique because I am accompanied by someone special, my wife, Ritika. This is our honeymoon trip, and although I had no plans to shoot a honeymoon series, I couldn't resist sharing the experience with my subscribers. In this video, I will explain how you can travel to the Maldives, whether you are a couple, a family, or traveling solo. I will also discuss the documentation and visa process and share tips on booking budget-friendly tickets.
Our Journey Begins
After an entertaining flight, we landed at Male International Airport in the Maldives. We cleared the immigration process smoothly and are now waiting for our luggage. Once we have our bags, I will explain the required documentation for traveling to the Maldives. We are staying on Gaafaru Island, which is not as famous as Male or Mafushi but is considered one of the best public islands. The view outside the airport is breathtaking, with crystal clear water and a hot tropical climate. Now, let me explain the documentation requirements for Indian travelers.
Documentation for Indian Travelers
Visa: Indians get a permit on arrival in the Maldives, so there is no need to worry about applying in advance.
Return Tickets: It is essential to have confirmed return tickets.
Hotel Booking: You must have a hotel booking, which can be paid or unpaid.
COVID-19 Requirements: You need a negative RT-PCR report taken 72 hours before your journey and a fully vaccinated certificate with a double-dose Covishield vaccine.
Passport: Your passport should have at least 6 months of validity.
Health Declaration Form: Within 24 hours of your journey, fill out the form on the Imuga health portal. You must provide passport details, a photo with a white background, a negative COVID-19 report, and your double-dose vaccine certificate. Save the barcode provided by the portal.
These are the only required documents, and there is no need for health insurance, bank statements, or information about the amount of money you are carrying. With these documents, you should have no problem staying in a budget hotel or a private island. In the past, during COVID-19, only private island bookings were permitted, but now you can also book guest houses on public islands like Gaafaru.
Arriving at Gaafaru Island
We arrived at Gaafaru Island by speedboat, which departs from Male every day at 4 pm. The journey takes approximately 60-75 minutes and costs around $30 per person. Gaafaru Island is located north of Male and offers a unique experience compared to more popular islands. We are excited to explore and share our adventures in the upcoming videos.
Exploring a Budget-Friendly, Underrated Island in the Maldives
After extensive research, I finally found the perfect destination for my vacation in the Maldives. I wanted to avoid overcrowded and touristy areas like Mafushi and instead stay on a public island that is budget-friendly, new, and less crowded. I was looking for a place to have privacy and experience the local culture.
The hotel staff picked up my wife and me from the airport, and we headed to our hotel for check-in. In the upcoming videos, I will share more details about the hotel prices and information about this island. But I'll rest today and shoot the next video tomorrow.
Don't worry; I won't miss out on any vital information, so stay tuned for the following video. In the upcoming content, I'll focus on the local people, their culture, and meeting some of them. It's going to be a fun ride as we gain new experiences.
Thank you for watching this video till the end. I hope you found all the information you needed on how to arrive in the Maldives as a family or a couple. While our luggage is being transported by vehicle, we are taking a leisurely walk to our hotel, which is just a minute away.
