Travel Rules for Iceland
If you plan to travel from India to Iceland, you need a Schengen visa. For the application process and required documents, refer to our separate video (link in the description). Please note that travel rules are subject to change, so always check the latest updates on the VFS Global site. However, if you are traveling from the US, UK, Europe, Canada, or Australia, you do not need a visa to visit Iceland.
Booking Your Flight
When it comes to booking your flight, there are several options available. If you are planning from India, you can use Google Flights to search for suitable alternatives. For a trip in summer 2022, the approximate ticket price for a return journey from India to Iceland in May 2022 is around 48,000 INR per person. Prices may vary based on the airline and the number of stops.
Arriving in Iceland
After a 3-hour flight from Amsterdam, we landed in Iceland at 5:30 PM. At the entry point, our documents and negative RTPCR report were checked. If you are not fully vaccinated, you may need to quarantine and undergo another COVID test before entering Iceland.
Booking a Rental Car
We booked a rental car from Europcar, which has a counter within the airport terminal, for our trip to Iceland. Some companies have pick-up points outside the terminal, providing shuttle services. Make sure to check your booking voucher to know the pick-up location. We had to wait about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get our car, but finally, we were on our way!
Exploring Iceland with our Rental Car
We rented a Suzuki Swace and highly recommended thoroughly checking the car for any damages before driving. If you prefer not to go to Iceland, there are other options to visit different places without a car. Stay tuned in this series; we will provide all the details and costs for alternative transportation.
Our First Rented Home in Iceland
After struggling to collect the keys, we finally entered our rented holiday home near Reykjavik. The house is heated and has a kitchen, living room, and dining area. We will stay here for 3 nights before moving to a new place. Stay tuned for more updates on our Iceland travel series!
House Tour
Let me show you around our holiday home. The living room has beautiful scenery instead of a TV. The bedrooms are spacious, with two smaller rooms and a main bedroom. There are also two bathrooms. The rental price for one night is 240 euros for the whole home, which comfortably accommodates up to 6 people.
Location
Our holiday home is located between Reykjavik City and the international airport. You can explore the surrounding areas by watching our upcoming videos.
Food and Groceries
We arrived in Iceland hungry and realized that the grocery stores were closed. Luckily, we brought Indian bread (parathas) and vegetables for dinner. The next day, we went to buy groceries for breakfast and to fuel ourselves for an adventurous day ahead.
Adventure Awaits
We are going to a place where we can witness a natural phenomenon - an active volcano. Based on the graph we are studying, there are chances of seeing the volcano erupt. However, the weather in Iceland is unpredictable, so we'll have to wait and see what happens. Stay tuned for our next video to find out!
